More World Trade Problems

I found a quote in an article I'm reading that describes another one of the ridiculous situations in the modern world economy:
when trucks of British poultry, beef, and milk bound for Europe drive past identical trucks bringing identical produce in the other direction, then something has gone wrong.
From this rather interesting book.

The fact that some countries import the same products that they export...doesn't make any sense. And yet it happens.

  1. Jeff Rubin has a book out "Why Your World is About to Get a Whole Lot Smaller" that may be of interest. He points out that this sort of nonsense is only possible with cheap energy for the transportation. As the cost of oil rises, foolishness like this with price itself out of existence.

You are welcome to disagree with me and with each other. Civil debate is a valuable way to test and exchange ideas. Do keep it civil, though. Any really offensive craziness will either be held up as an example of What We Don't Stand For, or deleted.
