And yet, if it happened in Belgium, who can sincerely believe that this was limited to Belgium only? Dutroux's own claims of a pan-European ring of pedophiles with members in high places in governments and important institutions is certainly scary, and suggestive, even if ultimately just wild sensationalism. Still, why were those documents even there??
And Danneels, though a liberal, was even considered papabile at one point.
One wonders, if he were pope...would everyone who has closed rank to defend Benedict have done the same for him? Merely because he was the pope? I have a horrible feeling that most would have. But, that's where the logic of that sort of fascist ultramontanism gets you; it's not about the truth, it's about identity politics and defending the Duce...
