More Right-Wing Idiocy

Wisconsin has recently passed a law requiring that public schools offering sex-ed teach the students about birth control and protection from STDs. Schools are also allowed to opt out of teaching sex-ed entirely, and parents may remove their students from the class.

But now the pro-"abstinence only education" DA in one county, Scott Southworth, is intimidating schools into choosing the option of simply not offering sex-ed by threatening to arrest teachers for "contributing to the delinquency of minors" if they follow the new state law and give the kids scientifically accurate information about
condoms. So he's basically threatening to obstruct legislation...

I have to agree with this one article which says, "We'd like to see his research, but we're guessing that Southworth also objects to teaching kids how to use umbrellas and raincoats because they cause rain."

This sort of idealistic naïveté from the Right is clearly a pervasive problem. And it always comes back to sex. And, mind you, I say that as someone who believes in the same morality they advocate. Except they're living in this unrealistic fantasy-land where they think they can protect people from themselves by pretending problems don't exist, as if maybe it will all just go away if we don't talk about it publicly.

It just makes you wonder what other fantasies they're having. I can't help but think that they might stop obsessing about what other people are doing if they got laid more often themselves...
